Basis Technology Helps Rogers Medical Intelligence Systems Automate Keyword Extraction for Clinical Intelligence Database

—  Medical Keyword Extractor Enables Faster Indexing of Clinical Reports In English; Prepares System for Processing Multilingual Documents  —

Cambridge, MA, February 6, 2003—Basis Technology, a leading provider of globalization software and services, today announced the completion of a project with Rogers Medical Intelligence Systems, a medical information company that is a wholly owned subsidiary of Canada’s Rogers Communications Inc. Rogers MIS tapped Basis Technology to create a Medical Keyword Extractor (MKE) for automatically tagging thousands of medical documents for its Clinical Intelligence database.

Developed as part of a strategic initiative to automate and streamline the process by which Rogers MIS staff classifies and indexes medical abstracts, the Medical Keyword Extractor enables the company to increase the amount of medical information made available to its growing roster of clients while at the same time enabling more efficient and accurate search and retrieval capabilities. Basis Technology designed the MKE to be extensible to process multiple languages as Rogers Medical Intelligence Solutions adds foreign language medical information to its database in the future.

“Because of Basis Technology’s outstanding work, we have been able to dramatically increase the speed with which new medical source information is tagged with keywords and made ready for searching by the thousands of medical professionals who rely on us to provide them with fast and accurate access to critical information,” said Robert Terdeman, SVP and CTO, Rogers MIS. “The fact that the system was designed in advance to support multiple languages means that we will be able to add keywords to clinical information from all over the world just as easily as we can now process documents in English. This will allow us to achieve our strategic goals which include building the largest definitive database of medical data in presentation format.”
